And that worries me. Gran Turismo needs to seriously beef up its old car portfolio. Yeah GT6 had 1,200 cars but only about 600 were actually rendered in HD with interiors. I’ve been a long time GT fan but if it comes out and id full of only brand new race cars I just don’t care enough to buy it.

We need the GT2 style car selection again.

Critically, the game is missing classic British, Italian, and French cars.

GT has been disappointing since prologue.

GT Sport, crucially, is meant to be an FIA-approved game, with official, sanctioned events that give out Digital License points. This, I think, is why there’s a focus on newer machinery—the cars have to be recent, and more or less close to what a budding driver will get to drive should a player decide to get down for real.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’d like to see some old metal in there, too, like the Rondeau M379 (GOAT of Le Mans), late 60's F1, Group B, and Group 5, but unless the FIA adds in a Historics League, you’re gonna have to live with what you’re getting.

[The FIA chose poorly. Sure Gran Turismo is an authority, but iRacing is a more sound sim, and can definitely use a boost—had the Digital World Championships gotten to that game, more makes will get in and have their cars scanned, same as tracks. Just seems like a missed opportunity.]

Oh that makes more sense. Yeah iRacing or Project CARS are both more realistic sims.

It is my not very humble opinion that racing games need more obscure cars, and if they happen to be classic so be it.

Ain’t GT Sport just like a Prologue thing?

GT7 will probably be the place for classic interesting cars.

I’ll have grown children by the time GT7 comes out. Sigh.

Outside of NASCAR games, if it doesn’t have a decent selection of classics, I don’t buy it. I like destroying new cars with old iron.

I’d buy a NASCAR game with classics. Superbirds vs luminas vs SS’s... sounds fun

Yup that bummed me out too. I’ll switch to Xbox if gt sport turns out to be all supercars and racecars

GT Sport is about modern racing, not so much about exploring a high car count. They quoted what, 140? 170?

Up to now I’ve only been a Xbox/Forza guy*, so I’m only guessing, but I think they are trying to channel all of their efforts in the the ‘new’ PS4 engine, 4K, etc, so the list of cars is being kept small and keeping to the late model sport theme. As someone said, GT ‘7' might expand on that once the new foundation is solid on the PS4 Pro, VR, etc.

Having said that, if they really want to be true to the FIA racing stuff, it’s a shame they don’t have more entry level cars that people actually race in real life. Anyone who doesn’t have sizeable trust fund more likely starts out in an NA Miata, an 88 CRX Si, an old RX-7, (or a BMW 3-series or Porsche 944 if they can afford the parts).   That would be a more realistic racing progression for someone that wants to actually drive a car on a track while they earn digital racing points, as opposed to dreaming of a spot on GT Academy.

The FIA is probably looking for more viewers/exposure so they just picked the most popular racing title. Though, interestingly, GT 6 only sold 5 million copies compared to GT5's 12 million. Was that because of the PS4 migration? Or was it not much of an upgrade?

* I did just pick up three used PS3s and three copies of GT6 to add to my triple screen setup, which currently runs Forza 4. I did this because A) GT6 supports multi-screen, and B) because my older Fanatec wheel supports X360, PS3/PS4, as well as PC (which I’m also just getting into). I’m anxious to see the difference in dynamics.

Somewhat related rant: I have spent 90% of my time playing Forza 4 recently, instead of Forza 6 or FH3 (I haven’t touched it). I’ve come to hate the fact that XBone has new hardware requirements, and doesn’t support multi-screen. I am assuming PS4 will be the same based on what I’ve read. I’m getting sick of the cost of multiple hardware setups, and will likely stick to PC if Forza continues in that direction.

If you PC game, buy NASCAR racing 2003. That’s THE sim for NASCAR outside of Iracing. Tons and tons of mods with all the eras of NASCAR. I think Iracing would be onto something big if they scanned a early 90s Lumina or 80s Regal or Monte Carlo.
